Abstract
Another episode that I remember vividly was the case of a pregnant woman. She arrived with labor pains. She was white as a sheet. Her hemoglobin was tested and was 3 percent (normally should be 12 to 15 percent). And when husband and mother -- in -- law were asked to donate blood for their answer was: no we will become kamjor (weak) blood is taken from our bodies so we cannot give blood. will be very difficult to save her they were told and their response was it doesnt matter. We doctors and nurses in the Emergency ward were very angry and I took the husband aside and said if you will not give the blood I will report to the police and you will be arrested. Of course was a baseless threat. But worked. Two pints of blood were taken and given to the patient. This type of reaction in response to dire threats occurred many times. (authors)
