AbstractTwenty‐five different weed species were identified in the 0–15 cm layer of the soils of a mature cocoa plantation, fallow land and a food crop farm but the most dominant were Chromolaena odorata, Cyperus spp., Setaria barbata, Fluerya aestuans, Talinum triangulare and Lantana camara. Significantly higher seed numbers were recorded in the upper 0–5 cm. L. camara contributed more than 50% of the seeds on the cocoa plantation and the fallow land was dominated by C. odorata.
