Abstract

Cassini-Huygens – the mission to Saturn that was jointly launched by NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) last year–is a good example of how to organize an international space mission. The International Solar Polar Mission (ISPM), which later became the ESA solar-polar mission Ulysses, is a good example of how not to do it. These are two of the thirteen case studies examined in a report on US–European collaboration in space science by a joint committee of the European Science Foundation and the US National Research Council.
