Abstract
The second satellite doppler symposium was held at the University of Texas at Austin from 22nd to 26th January, 1979. The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) of the University hosted the meeting which was co-sponsored by the U.S. Defense Mapping Agency and the National Ocean Survey, NOAA, and sanctioned by IAG, AGU and ACSM. The symposium was very much a follow up to the first meeting held at the University of New Mexico in Las Cruces, October, 1976. There have, of course, been other meetings devoted wholly or partially to satellite geodesy in the intervening period but this was the second meeting to deal fully and in depth with the whole science and technology of the NNSS Transit Satellite System. A total of 283 delegates attended, representing 31 countries; though the majority of delegates were from North America or Western Europe there were certainly enough from other parts of the world to make this a truly international gathering.
