Abstract

A tooth must be harnessed in such a manner as to have the tooth do its own work and do, or help to do, the work of a missing adjacent tooth or teeth. For esthetic reasons the tooth should have its labial or buccal surface left uncovered. Since a thin layer of a material placed over a surface is called a veneer, and since only part of the crown of the tooth is to be covered, it seems logical that the term “partial veneer crown” would be appropriate. If the plan or design of the preparation and casting is based on the rules and principles of science, which is knowledge gained and verified by exact observation and correct thinking as distinguished from empiricism, it should be called, “the scientifically designed partial veneer crown.” A tooth must be harnessed in such a manner as to have the tooth do its own work and do, or help to do, the work of a missing adjacent tooth or teeth.
