Abstract

The research highlights the value and impact of a Philippines' state university accreditation and its quest for quality and excellence in education. The study assessed internal efficiency improvement in the university's vision, mission goals, objectives, faculty, curriculum and instruction, support to students, research, extension and community involvement, library, physical plant and facilities, and laboratories and administration. Accreditation reshaped the university's internal efficiency operation in ten areas. As a result, the university has undergone several transformations through AACCUP's accreditation of programs. Innumerable changes in its structure, policies, and operations have given way to an ambiance of novelty and innovation. The study also included the financial cost of accreditation. Though there are financial constraints towards this endeavor, the prestige and benefits it brings to the university far outweigh sacrifices and costs. Likewise, the faculty and student respondents revealed that accreditation was advantageous and contributory in upgrading university status. The accreditation task is daunting, but the reward is gratifying for the students and staff. The successful breakthroughs of the higher education institution, to a considerable extent, are attributed and a result of continuous accreditation.
