Abstract

Teachers’ appreciation is one of the most important components that may impact the teachers’ competency. This article aims at finding out the correlation between the two variables, which are school’s appreciation for teachers and its impact to their competency. This research was conducted in Pidie District, Aceh with the total sample of 92 English teachers (SMA and SMK), both civil servants and non-civil servants. The research design applied in this study was qualitative descriptive research. In order to obtain the data, the questionnaire that was adapted from TALIS (Teaching and Learning International Survey) by OECD (The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) was used as the instrument. In analyzing the data, the statistical calculation of Pearson’s Correlation was used to find out the correlation between school’s appreciation for teachers and its impact to their competency. Based on the results of the study, it is found that the teachers’ appreciation and teachers’ competency have a positive and significant correlation (r=.64).
