Abstract
Sir .—We are grateful to Dr. Biedel for his positive response to our article. He has raised a most important question in his letter. The school health team as described in the article operated in a low-income area around the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where the primary care is almost exclusively provided by hospital and health department clinics. With the occasional child who had a family physician, permission from the child's private physician was obtained prior to the initiation of the work-up. In addition, the family physician or pediatrician, or both, were asked to offer observations and thoughts about the individual child and his family that could be of value during the overall assessment. The private physician was asked to participate in the conferences and received a full report of the initial educational and medical prescription developed by the interdisciplinary school health team.
