Abstract

Abstact Three nodules of deep-seated origin from the Stockdale kimberlite pipe, Riley County, Kansas were investigated for their scandium geochemistry by neutron activation analysis. The two granulite samples yielded average Sc concentrations of 51.4 and 73.5 ppm (h4gm/gm) while the eclogite sample had an average value of 14.0 ppm. The Sc concentrations in the granulite samples are in good agreement with other available data but that of the eclogite is low compared to other reported data. This low value supports an earlier hypothesis that the garnet of this sample was derived in the solid state from the pyroxene.
