Abstract

Incremental dialysis has a long history of use in kidney replacement therapy and is mainly applied to selected individuals commencing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD). Most individuals with end-stage kidney disease reluctantly start on maintenance dialysis, mostly due to the substantial negative impact on their quality of life. The initial reluctance is overcome with time, and most patients understand and accept the necessity of committing several hours of their life for 3 times weekly half-day appointments or daily or nightly PD exchanges in order to receive the prescribed maintenance dialysis therapy.
