Abstract

In 1957, Knox and Lenihan (10) introduced the first independent non-commercial audiometer calibration service for the routine calibration of audiometers, from hospital authorities in Scotland. During 1962, The Royal National Institute for the Deaf started a similar service for England and Wales. In 1966 the Scottish calibration service was joined with the R.N.I.D. to form one comprehensive service covering the whole country. The scheme is operated from a Technical Department in Glasgow and one in London, calibrating some 750 audiometers per annum.
