Abstract
A geophysical survey of the whole of the auxiliary fort at Lanchester, Co. Durham, produced unprecedented images of individual buildings and the overall layout of the site interior. The combination of the detail of individual structures and the overall scope of the survey permit a discussion of the garrisons of the fort in the light of epigraphic and structural evidence. The composition of part-mounted units is discussed in relation to barrack accommodation and the date and status of Germanic units among garrisons in the area of Hadrian's Wall is considered.
