Abstract
The immunosuppressive phenotype of the testis cell populations is thought to be centrally involved in the testicular defense network of the testis. We therefore studied the immunosuppressive properties of two cell types of the testis: Sertoli cells (SCs) and Peritubular cells (PTCs) in terms of the secretion of inflammatory cytokines, activation of mitogen activated protein (MAP)-kinase, IκBα and NF-κB signal transduction pathways and the transcriptional expression of inflammatory genes in freshly isolated SCs and PTCs from immature male Wistar rats following stimulation with lipo-polysaccharide (LPS, 10 μg/ml) at different time points.
