Abstract

In this paper, we focus on the effects of trapping-detrapping space charge on electrothermal aging. A physical quantity, free energy increment, is introduced to quantitatively describe the aging rate. Two aging effects of trapping-detrapping process are expressed by the free energy increment. The effects of the trapping-detrapping process on aging is identified on the basis of the energy features of traps and the free energy increment through experiment. The free energy increment can be a quantitative description of the aging effect of trapping-detrapping space charge on materials. It is positively related to the maximum density of traps, indicating that the trapping-detrapping process is hazardous to insulation health.
