Abstract
Correlation has been studied between the yields of e - ir and e - vis determined by pulse absorption measurements in the temperature range 6–110 K for CaCl 2, MgCl 2 and LiCl glasses and the luminescence generated in these matrices. Emission spectra of glasses at the temperatures 6, 20, 50, 80, 110 K and their time evolution were recorded. It has been found that the decay of luminescence at 6 K may be well correlated with the decay of the e - ir band. This indicates the participation of e - ir in low temperature recombination luminescence not only in LiCl and MgCl 2 but also in CaCl 2 ice. At higher temperatures radiative recombination involves also (e - vis) Ca 2+ (50 K) and (e - vis) Mg 2+ (110 K). The results obtained may be interpreted by using the model of traps based on ionic lattice the postulated by us previously. They also add some information as to the early behaviour of electrons in condensed systems.
