Abstract

The effect of the change in Ti 3d band occupancy, as Ti chemically binds with oxygen and silicon, on the Auger Spectra and Slow Electron Energy Loss Spectra has been monitored. Along with the changes due to shallow core levels, plasmon energies, etc., the spectral features that involve the quasiatomic transition [3p → 3d], are seen to manifest the electron density in the Ti 3d valence band and consequently reflect the mode of charge transfer in the formation of the respective chemical bonds.
