Abstract

This review seeks to explore the changing role of the paediatric dietitian in secondary care. Dietetics has changed from clinician-led care to one of increased autonomy. The remit of dietetics has changed to include cross discipline roles, greater involvement in nutrition strategic development, implementation of best practice and strategic development of services. The paediatric dietitian in secondary care also acts as an important interface between the service user and tertiary care providers. This reflection seeks to illustrate how the secondary care dietitian is placed to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of nutrition support services alongside a challenging environment working with the constraints and limitations of the present healthcare system.
