Abstract
Results of the photoelectrochemical process on germanium cathodes in alkaline solution are reported. It is shown that the stationary photopotential is determined mainly by the charge transfer through the ionic double layer. The phenomenon is described as decreasing surface coverage of the germanium cathode by adsorbed hydrogen upon illumination. The mechanism of the phenomenon is discussed.
