Abstract

As a result of the newly established role of clinical outcome manager, North Mississippi Medical Center Home Health (NMMCHH) measurably improved patient care while decreasing the cost of care. The success of the initial clinical outcome manager project of improving the outcome of urinary incontinent patients gave credence to the role and set the focus for NMMCHH on improving outcomes. NMMCHH added eight additional projects directed by clinical outcome managers. Additional results from the clinical outcome managers' concentration on patient outcomes included an excellent Joint Commission on Health Care Accreditation survey, facilitation of an increase in patient satisfaction rate, and a contribution to a reduction in staff turnover for NMMCHH. One success leads to another.
