Abstract

URINARY TRACT INFECTION (UTI) is the most common site of early bacteremia after renal transplantation. Additionally, its destructive role on transplanted kidney or as a predisposing factor to rejection has been confirmed. So, early diagnosis and treatment of UTI is very important. The role of antibiotic prophylaxis in this issue, such as cotrimoxazole and quinolones, has been emphasized. On the other hand, placement of ureter stent for producing a clear and safe conduit from donor ureter to recipient bladder is doubtful. Its preventive role from UTI after renal transplantation, especially when accompanied by antibiotic prophylaxis, has not been confirmed. So, in this study we try to compare the role of ureter stent, with and without cotrimoxazole, in prevention of early UTI (ie, in the first month after renal transplantation).
