Abstract

AbstractThe phenomenological Maxwell equations are used to investigate the passage of light through a crystal in a frequency range that corresponds to an isolated band of exciton states of the quadrupole type. The conditions are found under which the singularities connected with the wave‐vector dependence of the exciton frequency and an oscillating dependence of the light transmission coefficient on the crystal width may occur (when the width is small). The calculated results are compared with the Gorban‐Timofeev experiment with Cu2O in the quadrupole exciton absorption region when λ = 6125 Å.
