Abstract
This essay honors the life and work of Professor Kuo-shu Yang by addressing three questions: (1) What are the differences, if any, between cultural psychology and indigenous psychology?; (2) What is the role of reason in cultural interpretation?; and (3) Do the indigenous psychologies of different peoples have psychological relevance and applications beyond their points of origin; or, in other words, might an indigenous psychology with a “Chinese soul” illuminate the “soul” (and “mentalities”) of members of non-Chinese populations, and vice versa?
