Abstract

Third-harmonic generation from a nonlinear layer in a dielectric resonator is considered. It is shown theoretically that the Purcell effect can significantly affect the efficiency of harmonic generation. To describe THG by complex cavities, a homogenization approach is developed. It is shown that this approach works well for modelling the emission from a nanostructured surface consisting of subwavelength-size nonlinear nanoparticles.
