Abstract

Abstract. In the modern world, a person is influenced by many stress factors, which are unfavourable circumstances causing tension. It is assumed that addiction can be both a factor contributing to stress and a consequence of stress. An important aspect of overcoming stress is the use of psychological mechanisms to protect the individual. These mechanisms allow a person to avoid or reduce the negative impact of stress on mental and physical health. The article examines the role of psychological defense mechanisms in overcoming stress in dependent young people (drug addicts and gambling addicts), and in young people who do not have addiction. The article presents the results of the empirical study conducted as part of the final qualification work, aimed to determine the nature of the relationship between psychological mechanisms of personal protection in overcoming stress in men with drug and gambling addiction and men who do not have addiction
