Abstract

Annual epilepsy reviews can provide substantial benefits for people living with epilepsy, and practice nurses are ideally placed to undertake them. Pamela Mantri explains how a review can be undertaken and signposts useful resources for more information This article plans to support practice nurses to undertake effective annual epilepsy reviews. It discusses the purpose and potential of annual reviews and a practice nurse role. Practice nurses are well placed to identify and manage risk factors and comorbidities in people with epilepsy. The article identifies situations for onward referral for specialist reviews and it lists high-quality resources to support practice nurses in undertaking reviews. Annual epilepsy reviews offer patients an opportunity to discuss their concerns with a health professional. Reviews can greatly enhance quality of life, identify comorbidities and ensure timely referral to specialist services where indicated.
