Abstract

Objective To study the role of panel reactive antibody (PRA)in renal transplantation. Methods The PRA levels in 178 patients undergoing renal transplantation were detected before and after transplantation and the relationship between PRA level and renal graft rejection was studied. Results Positive PRA was detected in 23 recipients before transplantation.Among them, 20 recipients(20/178,7.4%) occurred acute rejection after transplantation. While 34 recipients(34/58,58.6%)suffered from acute rejection in 58 recipients with positive PRA only after transplantation.Only 8 cases(7.4%) had acute rejection in 108 recipients with negative PRA before and after transplantation.PRA distribution in 36 recipients with positive PRA Was different from the distribution of HLA antigens. Conclusion Detection of PRA before and after renal transplantation plays a very important role in evaluating outcome of renal transplantation.
