Abstract

Summary. The aim of this research is to study the activities of Petro Ivanovych Shypenko, the manager and artistic director of the Taras Shevchenko Pryluky City Theatre, during the period of Nazi occupation of Pryluky city (September 1941 – September 1943). The methodology of the study is based on scientific principles, systematic approach and historicism. Specific searching and historical-systematic methods were used during the research. Also there were used methods of analysis, synthesis and generalization. The scientific novelty is that the biographical data of the theater director P.I. Shypenko were investigated on the basis of archival documents introduced into the scientific sphere for the first time. The role of P.I. Shypenko in renovating and development of the Taras Shevchenko Pryluky City Theatre was determined. The basic areas of theatre life were analyzed. Conclusions. Thanks to the hard work of P.I. Shypenko, the manager and artistic director of the theatre, the team continued the theatrical traditions of the pre-war period. Within two years the number of members of a theatre troupe increased and their creativity level rose. Artistic heritage of the team is characterized by dozens of premieres of classical works by Ukrainian and foreign authors, and also going on numerous tours to cities and villages of Chernihiv region.
