Abstract

This chapter elucidates the role of (negative) emotions, with a primary focus on anxiety, in music making; their role in the experience of music performance anxiety, and how theorizing in this area may be enhanced by affording emotions a central role in our conceptualization of music performance anxiety. It begins by discussing the relationship between emotion, cognition, and anxiety.
