Abstract

The aim of this paper is to substantiate the growing role of knowledge in the process of organizing library activities, which makes it possible to determine the latter as a cognitive work.Research methodology. The cognitive nature of library work is considered, its areas of focus are covered with the help of comparative approaches and problem-analytical analysis.Results. Considerable attention in the work is paid to the insight of the phenomenon of cognitive labour. The necessity of changes in the management of libraries in the process of differentiated use of personnel management tools is emphasized.Novelty. The author argues that the work of specialized library services workers, who act as effective intermediaries in creating new knowledge, participate in the delivery of information and knowledge to the consumer, as well as their evaluation and quality improvement, fully complies with the requirements of cognitive work.The practical significance. The main results of the research can be used in the formation of personnel policy of libraries, activating the creative component of library staff, which is a prerequisite for effective library and information production.Key words: library and information production, library work, knowledge, knowledge management, communication.
