Abstract

This paper is a theological reflection on the role of the electronic Keyboard as a musical instrument in the African congregation’s Christian worship life towards missional goals and evangelism. According to Capuchin (2000:170), “Keyboard is a set of keys or levers which actuate the mechanism of musical instruments such as the organ, piano, harpsichord, and clavichord.” In this paper, the synthesizer, an electronic musical instrument, is referred to as the Keyboard. This instrument can be likened to a harp with strings (Ps.71:22) used during biblical times. Therefore, the term is used interchangeably with ‘piano ’or ‘organ. ’Hence, the paper seeks to examine various significant roles that the Keyboard plays in enhancing and enriching Christian worship in Africa.
