Abstract

Mg0.3Cu0.2Zn0.5Fe2-xO4-3x/2 nanopowders (x = 0.00, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 and 0.04) have been prepared by combustion route. The nanopowders were compacted and sintered at 900 °C for 4 h. Effect of iron ions on the microstructure as well as the electromagnetic properties of the sintered samples was studied. The results revealed that the content of Fe ions could influence the sintering behavior, microstructure, Curie temperature and magnetic properties of samples. The XRD patterns showed the formation of cubic spinel structure for all samples. However, the presence of a small amount of CuO as an impurity phase within the sample with x = 0.04 was detected. The microstructural evaluations revealed that the variation of iron content significantly affects densification and grain growth of samples. Saturation magnetization and Curie temperature were decreased with x. Also, the real part of permeability achieved a maximum while the resonance frequency reached a minimum when x = 0.03. With further increasing x, the real part of permeability dramatically decreased.
