Abstract

The post-peak decelerating hydration progress plays a significant role for concrete technology to assure durability of concrete. The effect of chemical admixture on cement hydration, hydration products, pore structure and moisture diffusion process are conducted by various experiments and the controlling factor on deceleration period of cement hydration and the effect of iron ion on microstructure are revealed. When the chemical admixture is added into cement paste, more ferrite phase is consumed and the iron dissolved in the pore solution modifies the initial hydration product layer and accelerate the hydration process, causing more C-S-H gel generated and denser microstructure. In addition, it is also proved that single diffusion control factor occurs at 80 h for the later deceleration period of cement hydration.
