Abstract

Indigenous knowledge has been with society right from when society was in its infancy, this materialises in rich culture, embedded in beliefs, folklore, medicine, religion, marriage, education etc. The indigenous people display a great deal of commitment to the protection of their heritage. These knowledge are passed down from generation. With the advent of modernization and civilization, as society grows, and as the international community emerge into international organizations and institutions, the need to protect the indigenous knowledge thus become necessary. This essay will attempt to highlight measures the international institutions have made to protect the indigenous knowledge and how it has been preserved. This paper will make use of both primary and secondary sources of research as its methodology.
