Abstract

Vygotsky is one of the main authors in psychology who has contributed to the research and theorization of educational processes. Different theoretical approaches have affected the construction of theories of education; among them, the zone of proximal development, scaffolding, mediation, language, thought, among others. His theoretical and empirical development on inner speech has been scarcely linked to the area of education. However, the link between inner speech and internalization/externalization, the concept formation process and the affective-volitional sphere of consciousness makes this construct the fundamental nucleus for understanding educational processes. In this chapter, some light is given on the role of inner speech in the teaching–learning process.KeywordsInner speechConcepts formation processInternalizationExternalizationEducation
