Abstract

In this paper, the following question is posed: to what extent does information—its availability, accessibility and communicability—affect the orientation of national labor movements? This question is interesting at the present juncture in time because of great changes currently in progress in information technology and in the worldwide organization of industrial production. The case of India is examined, and comparisons made with the US. The premise of this paper is that analyzing the past may provide pointers to expected changes in the future, and may indicate productive strategies for intervention.
