Abstract

E-learning has become the main stream among higher education institutions. Courses in various fields are offered online, students can enroll for a course through internet, lecturers and students are able to share online course materials which include notes, assignments and other multimedia contents. In universities, higher learning institutes as well, large or small, online teaching/learning systems are a key component of their education systems. For a number of the higher education institutions, a well-established online teaching/learning system is their lifeline for keeping their classes running. This paper intended to analyze the role of ICT integration into teaching and learning method through e-learning. The results showed that all 4 studied higher learning institutes did not establish an e-learning system. The proposed solution is to implement a blending teaching method while besides the existing face-to-face method an e-learning system is also deemed useful. The efficient implementation is the open source development software like moodle which is a free, secure and customizable platform and suitable to significantly reduce the cost of developing and supporting online classes while improving reliability and performance of the institution.
