Abstract

Background: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the lower airways characterised by intermittent airway narrowing & airflow obstruction. Objective: To know the secretion of IL -13 cytokine levels & association of IL -13 arg130gln & -1112C/T and IL-4Rα 551Gln/Arg & 50Ile/Val gene polymorphisms, their interactions between IL-13Arg/Gln, IL-4Rα 551Gln/Arg & 50Ile/Val by homology modelling. Materials & Methods: Atopic & Non-Atopic Asthma Patients & Healthy Controls (HC) (N=120). Cytokine serum levels were measured by ELISA, Single nucleotide polymorphisms was determined by Polymerase chain reaction. Homology modelling by insilico analysis. Results: There was a significant increase in the total serum IgE and IL-13 cytokine serum levels in Atopic & Nonatopic asthma patients Vs HC. In IL-13 - 130A/G cytokine gene AG, GG genotypes of codominant (p Conclusion: The GG genotype of IL-13 - 130A/G cytokine gene might be involved in the induced production of total serum IgE and IL-13 serum levels. Thus certain variants of IL-13 & IL-4Rα signalling may be important inducers of asthma.
