Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Following suction dilatation and curettage (D&C) for missed abortion physicians collect specimens for cytogenetic analysis after separating chorionic villi from decidua by visual inspection. Cross-contamination between maternal and fetal tissue can result in the generation of erroneous information leading to normal 46, XX results. The objective of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of cytogenetic analysis on products of conception (POC) specimens obtained by careful specimen selection and washing of tissue after suction D&C compared with those obtained from hysteroscopic biopsy prior to D&C in cases of missed abortion.
