Abstract
“The effect of the H1-receptor antagonist Diphenhydramine and the H2-receptor antagonist, Cimetidine, on the incidence, degree of histological differentiation and histological staging of 1–2 Dimethylhyd-razine (DMH) induced colonic cancer in Sprague-Dawley rats was studied. DMH was administered to 60 rats by subcutaneous injection of 20 mgs/Kg body weight per week for 16 weeks. Diphenhydramine and Cimetidine were given at a dose of 100 mgs/Kg body weight per day for 26 weeks. All rats were killed at 26 weeks and examined histologically for the presence of colonic cancer, degree of differentiation, lym-phocytic infiltration and staging. A total and a differential white cell count was examined in blood samples.
