Abstract
The effect of an external circuit on the phenomenon of wire fragmentation by high pulsed currents is discussed. It has been shown that the magnetic force generated by the external circuit alone can create sufficiently high stresses to break a metal wire in the solid state. It may add tensile stress of up to 40 MPa applied to the wire. (4 pages)
