Abstract

Public universities in Uganda have faced significant challenges in recent years. They have failed to enhance project performance in regard to time, scope and cost, and project stakeholders are not satisfied with the output of the different projects. This chapter attempted to explore the power of ethical orientation on project performance in public universities in Uganda. A cross-sectional quantitative survey design using a questionnaire was used to collect data from the public universities’ projects. Specifically, data was collected from the university’s project officers and stakeholders. Premised on the quantitative data from the field, the findings revealed that ethical orientation informs project performance. These findings have both policy and managerial implications. Policymakers should put in place policy guidelines and codes of conduct. The study recommends the recruitment of employees who have proven ethical backgrounds that will enhance project performance in different projects of public universities.KeywordsEthical orientationProject performancePublic sector institutionDeontologyTeleology
