Abstract
SYNOPSIS. Experiments with mixtures of latex‐tagged cultures of amoebae of strains, species and genera of the Dictyosteliaceae indicate little specificity in engulfment. This is in sharp contrast to the decided specificity for compatibility in completion of morphogenesis in the same organisms. Lack of specificity in engulfment is considered additional evidence favoring engulfment as a normal feeding activity rather than a process associated with syngamy in the cellular slime molds.
