Abstract

Background: Protein kinase C (PKC) has been implicated in the control of neuronal cell survival. PKCγ-KO animal models showed symptoms of parkinsonian syndrome, including the dopaminergic neuronal loss in the Substantia Nigra. However, the PKCγ substrates responsible for the dopaminergic neuronal cell survival in vivo have not yet been elucidated. We previously found 10 phosphoproteins including Cysteine string protein alpha (CSPα) that had decreased phosphorylation levels in the striatum of PKCγ-KO mice.
