AbstractSummary: Following Paul J. Flory, the role of local chain conformation in determining the structure and dynamics of macromolecules is elucidated, employing advanced solid state NMR spectroscopy supported by X‐ray scattering and dielectric spectroscopy. Topics covered include the local conformation in amorphous polymers, conformational memory, chain organization and dynamics in semicrystalline polymers, polypeptides, and rod‐coil copolymers.
