Abstract

AbstractThis paper describes the reclamation of the Merthyr Vale colliery site and shows that the incorporation of coal recovery produced economic, as well as environmental, benefits. The optimum plant throughput for a 2.1 m dia. barrel washer was 120 t/h at an operating density of 1200 kg/m3. Coal and discard qualities were acceptable, and the final landform was suitable for development with few restrictions.
