Abstract

Experiments are presented which indicate that the rate of iron uptake from serum transferrin by rabbit liver slices is enhanced by the presence of chelating agents. The initial rate of iron uptake is shown also to be directly controlled by the availability and affinity of the various proteins which specifically are involved in the metabolism of the ion.
