Abstract
This paper is a review of the application, relevance, advances and achievements of biotechnology in phytomedicine research and development. It also gave insight on the specific role of various biotechnological tools such as micropropagation, somatic embryogenesis, callus mediated organogenesis, cryopreservation, the bioreactor system, combinatorial biosynthesis and genetic transformation in selecting, multiplying and conserving critical genotypes of medicinal plants. Also highlighted are the opportunities and challenges of biotechnology in phtytomedicine.
Highlights
Upon successful initial review and compliance with all required journal instructions, including plagiarism which should be less than 15%, the manuscripts will be subjected to double blind peer review process with at least two reviewers involved
