Abstract

A review is given on the role of analytical chemistry in environmental protection. Particular emphasis is laid on the mutual interaction: Suitable analytical methods permit an appropriate assessment of the pollution and this makes possible regulations for its prevention or diminution. The necessary control in turn promotes the further development of analytical methods.
