Abstract
The article discusses modern ideas about the role of vitamin D (cholecalciferol) in the human body, provides criteria for assessing the level of vitamin D, describes the indications for studying the concentration of vitamin in blood serum. A special place is given to the loss of bone mass and the development of osteoporotic fractures against the background of cholecalciferol deficiency.
