Abstract

Before the railway was constructed, there were many river parts in Kanto District.The writer examined as many of them as possible and tried to explain, in this treatise, their nature, their distribution and the directions of their transportation, and show how the railway, the new means of transportation, came to displace them.Some studies on the main navigable rivers seen in the point of their inclination are also treated here.
